MAP Recommended Practice Problems on Khan Academy
Based on MAP testing which we conduct three times a year, I am able to identify practice recommendations on Khan Academy for each of my students to help them improve their math performance. Students will see the assignments on their homepage when they log in to Khan Academy a few days after MAP testing is completed. Students can log in to Khanacademy.org by clicking on login in the upper right corner and then entering through the red oval Google Port or by logging in using their SPC username (FirstName.LastName or SPC email) and their SPC password (coloranimalnumber). These math assignments are interactive and provide instant feedback. The Khan practice problems are meant to supplement, not replace, what we do in class and help ensure your student is meeting all grade level math standards and is on-track and progressing toward college readiness. Hints and video tutorials are linked to the problems and can be used as needed. There is an exit link to click on if a student hasn't learned the material yet, and hitting the escape key will refresh the screen to a new problem if a glitch is encountered. There is also a link to report any problem encountered which will automatically redirect the student to a new problem.
Khan Academy mission can be accessed on the student's homepage, below any assignment. The student may need to specify math and grade level. Clicking on the Khan Academy logo will refresh the page. Students are only required to work on Khan Academy at home when I give them an assignment, but students working independently on their grade level mission - watching the videos, practicing, taking mastery quizzes - is encouraged and will earn the student extra credit points. I personally have completed the Khan Academy missions for the grade levels I teach to confirm for myself that the practice is worthwhile.
